Sommer taught me about Whistle Pigs a while ago. I had never heard of a whistlepig before and even made fun of Sommer for creating an imaginary animal. Well our stinkin neighbor backed her up today when he showed us an actual whistle pig. A whistle pig looks like this:
Here are those maternal skills at work! I wanted to just leave it outside but that's not nice.
Whistle Pigs are also known as Ground Hogs and Woodchucks. We left this little guy out behind the dumpster under a tree with a hot water bottle. We did this because thats where he was found. Hopefully our neighbor cats wont get a free meal out of him....and Sommer hopes that the mommy whistle pig finds him.
-- Update on the whistle pig... there is no trace of him this morning. Hopefully it is because Momma whistle pig found him.
I don't know about you Chris!!! That looks more like a snipe than a woodchuck. And if it is a woodchuck, how much wood has he been chuckin' in your apartment???
ReplyDeleteuh huh... apparently "The groundhog (Marmota monax), also known as a woodchuck or whistle-pig, or in some areas as a land-beaver, is a rodent of the family Sciuridae" .... Who knew!!??
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not a groundhog, I mean I guess it could possibly be a different kind of marmot, but depending on where you live, my best guess would be a baby ground squirrel or prairie dog.. a groundhog that small wouldn't have such a full coat of fur, and it's eyes wouldn't be open yet. They are also more reddish brown in colour than this little cutie in your pictures :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a baby ground squirl Similar to a prairie dog but smaller It was about 6 weeks old by the looks of it and probably crawled of into hiding close to where you left it They make amazing pets and are very easy to take care of They are smart and full of personality and actually love you
