Another Post on Snowboarding!

You'd think it was winter or something with all these posts about snowboarding!  Well it is still winter up here in Rexburg and we just went snowboarding again today so why not a post about it!  We made sure to take a bunch of videos and pictures of our adventure up at Targhee today so we'll share them with you guys too.  There hasn't been much snow this entire week so we were a little worried about that but figured it'd be a fun "groomed run day", which it turned out to be.  Luckily the visibility was actually really good.  Barely any clouds and 34 degree temperature made today a real fun and fast day.  So I have an app on my phone called "My Tracks" and it uses my gps to record where i've been (if i activate it) and how fast and the elevation, etc.  Well I used it today to see how fast I got going and my max speed today was 44.7 mph.  Nice huh!

We made it to our favorite run, which is called Chief Joseph Bowl (or Joe Bowl for short), and the run didnt disappoint!  We love it because there is a natural half pipe that is built up by the groomers so either side has a little bit of an incline and a lip which makes it perfect for dink around jumps.  We have been learning how to do spins, which until now has kinda been a scary thing for both of us.  Today Sommer started trying 360's and I kept doing them, I even ended up doing a perrrrfect 540 and when I looked up to see if Sommer got it on video I realized that she had missed it, bummmmer!  But I totally did it!

So we found this cool Japanese Sand Garden thing made out of the powder by the lift.  I guess the poor lift operator had A LOT OF TIME to kill.  It looked way cool though.

So here's all the videos!

Here I go, I did a backside 360 between two trees and got scared so i decided "hey a tree hurts more than snow" so i fell on my face.  Probably not the best choice since on the next jump i fell BACK onto my face, but I almost had a 540 on the second jump.

Me again, I pulled a nice 360 right in front of Sommer.  I guess the nose of my board got stuck in the powder at the end.  I think this was the only powder in all of Targhee today though, thats why we enjoyed this run so much!

Sommer's turn.  I swear my life flashed before my eyes on this one though.  She did a clean 180 but as she landed i saw some sort of rage in her eyes as she nearly ran the sharp metal edge into my thigh.  Just kidding, there was no rage but I think she was thinking "payback for getting tickled".  Sommer says at the end that she didnt want this one on the blog.  Guess that didnt work out for her.

I decided to take the camera for a whirl.  I mean, it is an Olympus Tough camera and doesn't mind getting wet.  So I did a 360, it may get you a little dizzy but I landed it FYI.

Long shot of me falling from a 360 attempt.  But did you see that wierdo with the skis on his poles?  I finished up with a good 360 though.

Sommer!  Boom 180.

Me riding with the camera. It is a little disorienting but I didn't land that.  Thus the "ow" at the end.

Round 2 - Riding with the camera again...thats all that happened.  Then my finger covered the camera.  I actually forgot to turn it off.  Whoops!

Sommer pulls a nice 180.  BACKSIDE!  woo.

That big black thing is actually an alien ship.  Or its my finger...Oh well.  I did two 360's with the camera though, so that was fun!  Then what?  a backside?  Nope, I fell.

Sommer burning up the mountain.  I want to say that was a 360 but it was like a 320 slide into a 360.  The second one was a nice 180, woop woop.

This one i popped up for a 360 and fell.  I dont know what happened but it turned into a butt pop.

We sure had fun, I hope you enjoyed watching our videos.

Snowboarding!

We have had a fun winter of snowboarding so far! We try to go once a week so that we can take advantage of our season passes to Grand Targhee. This week we remembered two important things!
1: To bring the camera
2: To bring the camera with a charged battery!

Today was a crazy day for boarding. It was hard because of the VERY low visibility. Grand Targhee has a bad reputation for this, it even is sometimes referred to as "Grand Fog-ee". Today we got stuck in a cloud most of the day, so we would find random bumps and get tossed to and fro. I got beat up quite a bit because I enjoy going fast too much. Sommer and I are also getting better at doing fun spins. 180s and 360s so far, but I even accidentally almost did a 540. We found a nice spot to practice these tricks of ours and kept going back to it because the lower part of that run was consistently "more" visible than the rest of the mountain. All in all it was a fun day!

No lip = No good!

I wish I would have got this!  I hit the record button but it took too long I guess to record.  Sommer almost had a 360 but the board ended up at the same level as he tummy and was in front of her.  She landed on her butt and a poof of powder flew all around her as she hit the ground.  It was fun to see!

Sommer leaned back a little too far on the first part and ate it.  She did score a 180 after that fail though.  Yahoo!

Sommer forgot her coat.  I didn't pack it because I thought she was a big girl.

My turn!  360 to fail to 360, woo woo!  I actually had a lot of fun riding out of my crash, I sure felt cool.

Here's a 510 degree spin onto tushie.

We challenge the Magic Carpet once again!

FOG!  I was actually hiding behind those trees!  We were at the summit and it was windy so while i waited for Sommer to catch up I hid behind the shelter of those withered trees...they didn't block very much by the way.

I got stuck.  Sommer made fun of me, now you can too!

I nearly ran into a tree and instead ended up being stuck.  Bummer.   It took me a while to get out, I felt pretty dumb, especially after I saw Sommer with the camera.  The hard part about it was that there was SO much powder that every where I put my arm it sunk down, so i couldnt find any leverage.

We got hot chocolate for free!  A Targhee employee asked us to do a survey and gave us vouchers to get hot chocolate!  yahoo!
Lunch was nice.  we are considered by Targhee to be picnickers and thats not a good thing.  They designate a small portion of their eating area for "our kind" but we snuck into the nice section because we had those hot chocolates.

New Project

So for Sommer's next project we decided to work on our bedroom.  Here is the progression of this project.
