Canyon fun

So I ended up going with Matt and Kristen, friends from BYU-Idaho.  We had fun and luckily it snowed a whole bunch so the mountain was a lot better than I thought it would have been after a couple warm weeks.

So here are a couple pictures I took when I found some time.

here's matt and kristen at the top of the mountain before we embarked on a double black run

Here is a tree run i did, it was fun and full of powder.  I only hit 1 tree.

The End

PS Here ya go Matt

Canyons! Oh, darn.

So we've been planning to go board at the canyons one last time before the resorts start closing (which is sooon) and then Sommer's boss boss decided to put her in charge of something way big.  Drawing up stuff ... I know it's real important and has to do with drawings...anyway, so her boss said she had to come in today.  Boo.  Here I am with plans to go boarding with 2 of our friends and I can't go with my bride.  Sommer insisted that I still go but the excitement really wore off.  I'm sure I'll still have fun, poor Sommer.  So my job is take a lot of pictures and share the fun with her, woo.

Hopefully I don't break any bones, that would hurt.

Tomorrow I finally start!

Tomorrow I finally get to start working at Best Buy!  It's been such a long wait since they rushed me through all the interviews in a single day.  I had thought I would have started right away but I guess not.  What happened was the manager, who does all the orientations, left the day after the interviewed me and hasn't got back from her vacation since.  Bummer.

I am excited to finally get working.  Only worry is that I'll work at nights, then Sommer would get home at 5 and I wouldn't get to see her til 10ish.  Eek.

Well our plan is to stay here in Park City.  We have found a very nice place in Red Pine.  Red Pine is at the base of the Canyons resort, lucky us!  We've got a pool, tennis courts and lots of fun things to do for the summer time.  Woo!  Sommer is especially excited because the Farmer's Market is 2 blocks away.  We got lucky and found a nice condo that is in between both Best Buy and the Montage...kinda.  We're looking forward to summer bike rides even though we don't have bikes...craigslist!  We heard garage sale-ing is reeeally good up here during the summer so that should be fun...for Sommer.

Crazy Weekend

So this weekend was a little crazy.  Sommer and I were planning on looking for a place to live and for a renter this weekend.  Saturday I was going to have my first day of work at Best Buy and I was excited.  I got a call late Friday night and was told by the girl in charge of my training that I would training during this next week (this week now).  Boo, so Saturday morning we took it easy and had a good breakfast of MANCAKES and bacon.

Yum.

Saturday morning was going along just fine and then we decided to head down for Cooper's Bday and visit with mom and the Holms.  We headed out around 11 and made our way for Cedar City, about a 4 hour drive.  Roads seemed to be ok, just a lot of rain in and around us in the Salt lake valley.  Normally, the further south you get the warmer it gets.  I wasn't too worried because I figured it'd just keep raining and such.  Well by Nephi Utah it was cold enough that it was snowing pretty hard.  I was driving the Civic and taking it slow.  It is kind of fun seeing people spinning their tires in the snow as they try to floor it from a stop...well with snow sticking all over the road we started seeing plenty of cars stopped in the middle of the highway just spinning their tires. I slowly maneuvered around them and found multiple semi's strewn about the road just stopped in lanes trying to get up the hill or stopped in the middle of the road trying to get their chains on.  It was fun being in a little civic taking it real slow and making it up the couple mountain passes between Provo and Cedar City.

After the last mountain pass, just passed Beaver, we found a huge accident.  Two semi trucks were involved along with an SUV and some other car.  The first Semi had jack knifed and its trailer had taken the hood off of an SUV.  The second Semi was partly off the road along with the poor car that tried to avoid it.  Sommer got a pic of it.  The roads still had plenty of snow on them and the only road that was showing was in the tire tracks of other cars that lead the way.  I was taking it pretty slow at 35 mph and was driving a whole lot slower than other drivers but was in the fast lane because it was cleaner than the slow lane.  I don't really know what else to say...

I crashed...I was going slow but hit some slush and that sent me off the road.  If you look close you can see the north bound traffic is backed up as far as we could see...all due to that jack knifed 2 semi accident.  Also, because of that accident nobody would help.

There was a police officer parked 200 feet away from where we crashed.  He was parked in the "emergency vehicle only turn around" while we crashed and watched us skid to a stop.  Dumb thing was he didn't come out to help and actually went into his car.  The next time he was outside I went and asked if he could help us but he said he couldn't do a thing.  I guess Protect and Serve only goes 199 feet.  So I called BJ and he ended up getting us a tow truck which came 2 1/2 hours later (due to all the emergencies).

During our 2.5 hours of boredom the roads were cleaned by 4-5 snow plows.  The first one was spraying snow on our side of the road, so I started getting a little worried but was positive the guy would lift up his blade since he was cruising down the highway near 40 mph.  To our luck (along with the car's) the snow plow didn't stop and didn't lift his blade but instead threw A LOT of snow and rock and slush at my car at 40 mph.  It scared us both silly.  I was so so so mad but grateful that the windows weren't shattered.  The snow plows that followed all saw an angry 23 year old jump out of the car and wave his arms...I figured they wouldn't plow snow at me at that speed without risk of felony.

Well the wheel got a little messed up with rocks in the wheel bead and it was a little stressful, but we had a good time down in Cedar City with the Holms and Mom over the weekend.  I also washed the car and can't really find any crazy dents or scratches that I could actually blame the snow plow for causing.  All n all it was an adventurous weekend!

Snowshoeing n such

We've been snowshoeing a bunch now...bunch means 3 times.  Each time we have taken a different route up to the top of the mountain behind our home.  Summit Park Peak.  It's a 2.5 mile hike and we usually end up in the dark.  The first time we had the moonlight, the second time we went with Jessica Powell and got lucky with no light at all (so we brought a headlamp) and this last time we went on a shorter hike just to kind of relax and such.

Here Sommer is on top of a mound.  Conquering that mound real good!

Hello!

Sommer said my pictures were the typical poses and that they weren't original.  It took me a while to explain to her that i was the originator of the pose. Silly Sommer.

After showing Sommer what I just said there about the poses she replied "Whatever they have statues like that".  I guess she didn't know that I was the inspiration for the sculptors, but I guess its ok...we've only been together for over a year and married for more than 6 months...there is still a lot to learn.

I am hoping some time that we'll get out during the day and be able to take advantage of the warm weather and ample amount of snow.  Hopefully build a fun jump in the back country and have some fun.  It has been so fun living in this area with the mountains all around us.  We have enjoyed living in Park City a bunch (aside from living in some ladies basement).

As of right now, we are planning to stay here during the summer time.  I just got hired at Best Buy and hopefully will end up in one of their corporate event pictures where they are trying to build unity ... like this:
At Best Buy I will be in the "Home Department" which includes home theaters, fridges and other appliances, along with gaming.  I am excited.  I was scheduled for a "Training Session" for today (Saturday) but I got a call yesterday about the training not happening til this next week.  Boo.  I was super excited to finally get working.
Sommer will continue working with Layton.  The nice thing is they had assumed she was staying until then so there is nothing really that needs changing for her job.

We are however looking for a new place to live here in Park City area.  There are lots of places still charging their "Winter prices", so it's been kind of hard.  This place is definitely a seasonal area where the prices drop a bunch during the off-season (summer time).  The main reason we're looking for a move is our landlord's little girl.  My tolerance for some stranger's kid and her crying only goes so far, which happens to be April...when we move.

(By the way this is not a pic of the girl....i just google'd "crying toddler girl")

There are lots of fun things in the area and I am sure a lot of different things to do during the summer time.  We are excited for this next step in our life together!

VintageBlueBird!

So we are still working on furniture. We just got one piece done tonight. I have so much fun doing it. The best part is Chris sands and does the base coats while I'm at work, so only the fun work is left for me to do!

Chris was putting on the doors again for me.
The tape was a lot harder to get off then we thought it would be
Heres the table without the leaf (and not painted)
It gets a lot bigger with the leaf. I think this is going to turn out pretty cool, if I could ever find time to finish the chairs...

Rolled Car

So this morning I got back into the groove of carpooling with a lady I work with, Jackie. She's a great driver, and drives at least slower than everyone else on the road. Well we came around a corner, slid, hit the railing, and tipped over. I was up in the air and told Jackie "don't worry, I've done this before". It was just like when the love of my life, Chris, tipped my car. Only this time we weren't out in the middle of no-where, with no cell service, in a blizzard, and sopping wet. Nope, we were almost to work and about 30 of our co-workers were behind us on their way. So we had plenty of help. Someone called 911 and everything. But I told them I was okay and jumped in a car (after making sure Jackie was okay with me leaving) and went to work, because I was only wearing a little vest, huddling near the engine that was still warm. Anyways, it was an exciting morning.
